3 months contract with A Local Authority

Job Summary:

·         To support the Senior Prosecutions Lawyer in ensuring that the Council receives a cost-effective high-quality Prosecutions Service and in delivering advice and legal support to the Council in the areas of criminal law and local government law and such other areas and projects as are allocated from time to time.

·         To undertake such advocacy as is required from time to time.

·         To ensure that all such work is carried out to the requirements of relevant clients and to appropriate professional standards.

Key Duties/Accountabilities:

·         To undertake all work including, inter alia, the settling of pleadings, preparation for hearings, provision of advice and representation of the Council in all courts, Tribunals and Inquiries as required by the Senior Prosecutions Lawyer, to the appropriate professional standards.

·         To provide advice to the Council on changes in legislation and case law that may have an impact on the Council and to keep up to date with new and proposed legislation, new cases and other developments, which may have an impact on the Council.

·         To undertake tasks and projects as allocated by the Senior Prosecutions Lawyer in accordance with instructions.

Essential Experience Required:

·         MUST HAVE RECENT LOCAL GOVERNMENT EXPERIENCE IN PROSECUTIONS AND CRIMINAL LITIGATION IN A LOCAL GOVERNMENT SETTING.

·         EXPERIENCE OF DEALING WITH LICENSING MATTERS INCLUDING LICENSING ACT 2003 AND IDEALLY EXPERIENCE OF SITTING AS A LEGAL ADVISER TO SUB-COMMITTEES ARISING THERE UNDER.

Essential Qualifications Required:

·         IDEALLY LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WITH 2 YEARS PQE.
